Drama Department

The Drama Department curriculum includes semester courses in Theatre Arts for 6th-8th grade and the following courses for high school students: Theatre Arts I & II, Advanced Drama I & II (offered for college credit), and Public Speaking (offered for college credit). Every semester is a new experience, evolving to current trends.

The Chaminade Drama Department produces at least four main stage productions a year: all-school musical, all-school play, a high school play, and a middle school play, as well as, various other productions throughout the year.

In a hands-on after school apprentice program, students learn the craft of lighting, sound, costume and scenic design, as well as, stage management and assistant directing, while others audition to act.

Whether through production, the classroom, or exposing students to the practicality of theatre Chaminade Drama Department embarks every year on an unique experience.

We are excited to host our drama productions in our Viragh Center for the Arts. Larger productions will be featured in Siefert Auditorium which seats 1000 people. Smaller drama productions will be featured in our Black Box Theatre which seats about 200 people. The building features state of the art sound and equipment for our productions plus a large stage area.

In late April/early May the Chaminade Drama Department will continue its annual 24 Hour Play Project.  In this, students are divided into small groups and over approximately 24 hours of time (spread out over a week) develop their own concept, write, rehearse, produce and perform an original short play. All Chaminade students and girls from other schools in grades 6-12 are invited to participate. There are no auditions required.  Just contact Mr. Grumich at [email protected] to be included!

As of now the dates for this project are still being finalized.

On April 24th the Chaminade Drama will host its annual season-ending banquet to celebrate the accomplishments of the past season, recognize our graduating seniors and announce next season’s lineup of shows. The banquet is open to all students who participated in any way in our season of shows and their families!
