ORGANIZATIONAL BOOT CAMP + SUMMER READING & MATH

Organizational Boot Camp aims to support Chaminade’s Esto Vir mission of transforming boys into self-sufficient young men. The camp offers a fun, competitive environment where students will gain essential educational and life skills that will benefit them in the classroom and beyond.

By signing up for this camp, your son will work with a Chaminade teacher, school counselor, and learning consultant to:
-Learn organizational, planning, and other executive functioning skills applicable to school and life.
-Receive support in completing his summer academic work (e.g., math packet, summer reading).
-Obtain resources that can be used during the school year.
-Feel prepared to begin the new school year at Chaminade.

What a great opportunity for your son to learn essential skills needed for success, and to keep his academic skills sharp! Sign up quick, this camp is limited to 25 participants per session. Open to Chaminade students entering grades 6 to 9.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS

June 12-15, Monday-Thursday, 9am-Noon
Boys & Girls Entering Grades 6-12

This camp will explore the United Nations, a body founded after the Second World War to “save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.” Using a variety of active learning techniques, students will learn about some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Each student will represent a state in the United Nations General Assembly, conduct research from that state’s perspective on a specific issue, and draft a General Assembly resolution. On the last day of the camp, students will debate and vote on the draft resolutions in a simulation.

Make it a full day by combining this camp with the Org. Boot Camp or READ Camps running the same week. 

MODEL NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL

June 19-22, Monday-Thursday, 9am-Noon

This camp will explore the National Security Council, the President of the United States’ principal venue for national security and foreign policy decision making and main arm for coordinating such matters across federal agencies. Using a variety of active learning techniques, students will learn about some of the United States’ most pressing international challenges. Each student will represent a member of the National Security Council, conduct research from that member’s perspective on a specific issue, and draft a brief position paper. On the last day of the camp, students will participate in a simulation.

R.E.A.D. - Reading Enrichment Across Disciplines

This fun, interactive camp is designed to transform reluctant readers into intellectually curious and self-motivated learners, and to train students in the specific skills needed to succeed in all of their classes. Students will learn the following fundamental reading skills: 1.Identifying textual evidence 2. Recalling and summarizing key details 3. Creating inferences 4.Understanding cause and effect 5. Analyzing literary passages. Level I is perfect for reluctant or behind-level readers looking to develop positive and effective reading habits. Level II is perfect for students entering 8th & 9th grade who are looking to expand their proficiency.

Spend a half day developing your resume. We'll find the format, font and details that capture you best. Awards, leadership, clubs, sports, community service--it all counts! Having a resume will help prepare you for completing your college applications and maybe getting that next job!

Students get a jump start on college applications as they will work with Chaminade's College Counselors to complete the Common Application for College Admission, including getting a good start on the essay portion of the application.
